Another Backyard Mystery

I found this nestled along my climbing rose. Anyone have any idea what it is? There's definitely something alive in there. Maybe it's some sort of insect cocoon?

Kill it. It looks just like the bagworms that dessimated my conifer and tried to kill 3 others!

I can't tell much from the picture, but if you think it's a cocoon I might recommend snipping off the branch it's on and putting it into a clear, sealed container with a few small air holes. That way you'll get to see what ecloses from it ...

I agree with Christine, it looks like caterpillars on the outside of webbing they have made. It’s been a few days since your post. Have you figured it out?

For clarification- the brown things on the outside are actually pieces of twigs that have been incorporated into the grey webbing. Yesterday I saw what appeared to be a large black caterpiller poking it's nose out. (It's still under close observation.)

Definitely bagworm. Pick off, put in garbage, or burn. Do not leave lying on ground or it will crawl back up and keep eating. Check other plants especially conifers.

Thanks Kayell! I googled bagworm and it definitely looks like what I've seen.
