Forced Bulbs in Bloom

I tried a new experiment this year- forcing bulbs by just setting the hyacinth bulbs in a little vase of water. After about 3 months in the fridge, they had set down some roots and were ready to grow and bloom. Here's a few pictures of their progress.

I also force bulbs every year. I do mine in water too.
After the flower is finished I let the leaves and stem "ripen" and plant the bulb out in the gardens for next years bloom. I did hyacinths this year too. They filled the house withthe natural smell of spring. So pretty.

I force hyacinths, too, but unlike "g", mine go to the compost bin when they are finished. Maybe I should try to "ripen" them next year and plant them out.
